"Great book of an extremely costly test in dieppe."

The Dieppe raid of August 1942 is one of the most controversial actions of World War II. Operation ‘Jubilee' was a frontal assault on a fortified port, landing the latest equipment and armor directly on to the beach. The main force would destroy the port facilities, while other smaller landings dealt with anti-aircraft and coastal batteries. The raid itself turned into a fiasco. Even in the air battle, the operation was intended to lure the Luftwaffe into a battle to make it bleed, but in the end, the RAF losses were more than 2 for each German aircraft loss. The assault force was pinned down on the beach and three quarters of the 5,000 Canadian troops landed were lost. This book analyses the disastrous raid and examines contrasting conclusions drawn by the Allies and the Germans. This book, as usual with the Campaign series, analyse commanders, the planing, equipments and the armies, before and during the battle and it tells the story from both sides, attacker and defender. Full color 3-D ‘bird’s-eye-views’, battle scenes, soldiers or equipment drawings and maps as well as black and white photographs that support's the text. The book tells that the raid had the added objectives of boosting morale and demonstrating the firm commitment of the United Kingdom to open a western front in Europe. In the end, it would affect every future beach landing in the war.
