Japanese Musashi Battleship Boat

The Musashi was the second ship in the Yamato-class which were the largest battleships ever built. Completed in 1942, the Musashi took part in various campaigns before finally meeting her fate at the hands of U.S. Navy aircraft in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Tamiya's precision-made assembly kit model recreates this giant battleship in exquisite detail, including her defensive anti-aircraft suite of numerous single 25mm cannons on the main deck. This different anti-aircraft armament makes for an interesting comparison with the Yamato. Tamiya rereleased Musashi in 1981 and this great model kit is available again with new mast parts.

"Very well designed and detailed kit."
masterchief191
This is my 8th 1/350 ship model. This was a great kit to build, i originally thought it was a pain but there was operator error. This had to do with the forward deck fitment. There is a small, flat rail that is not meant to go under the deck, if you buy this kit, you will see a gradual slope to this rail, it is meant to create an inner rim around this part... only the forward deck. The rest of the kit was great, it is a very simple paint scheme so you can paint after almost total assembly. However, one paint color was a pain to locate, which i did not... IJN grey, used a Flat Dark Aircraft Grey to imitate, was close but can tell its not exactly correct. One thing i did not like about this model though, was that the main and secondary turrets... they are hollow and do not have a cover plate for the underside of the turrets, referring to the rear-inside portion of each turret that is still visible, so its a cheap design that does not completely close the turret. All together great kit, recommend to others, though its detailed, part-wise, it is not a bad ship to continue getting acquainted with 1/350 ship models.

"The 2nd 'Yamato'-class battleship comes to life with this kit"
cdnmodeller (Edmonton, AB)
This was my 2nd attempt at building a 1/350 model (1st was the 'Yamato'). While I wasn't as impressed as I was with the first one it was still a good build. This kit has the minute detailing of the Yamato. Like another reviewer I experienced some frustration with it but like that reviewer, it was due to operator error. This involved the placement of the antiaircraft guns on the sides of the ship. I had expected a similar layout to the 'Yamato' as they were the same class and was a little surprised to find such a difference. It took a while for me to figure that out but I eventually did and things looked good with it. I've had this kit for over 10 years and would build it again. Be prepared to usr a lot of paint & cement. Recommended.

"Great Kit from Tamiya"

Putting this kit together you will notice just how many anti-aircraft machine guns were onboard the ship.
