Navy Destroyer DD412 Hammann Boat

The USS Hammann (DD-412) was a Sims class destroyer that was commissioned in 1939. In 1942, she rescued men from the stricken aircraft carrier Lexington. However, she may be best known for her final moments, in the Battle of Midway. Having rescued the crew of the badly-damaged USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, it remained alongside to assist with repairs when the ships were attacked by a Japanese I-168 submarine, the Hammann eventually taking a torpedo and sinking.

The Tamiya model kit faithfully captures all the details of this historic ship. Tamiya's designers have taken great care in researching the archives to bring the avid modeler the most accurate scale model.

"Enjoyable to build"

Built this as my 2nd attempt waterline ships. Had a little trouble with the 20mm's and then lost a 5inch barrel when cutting off the sprue...so after a little bit of research, found a site which showed the ship (Sims class) in 1939/40 look with the 53 gun being an open mount so will just make that happen...also the depth charges for the ships flanks were really hard to attach and will eliminate them as there were none prior to the war. Will add pics when completed.

"Well Made, very detailed"

Kit is very detailed and can be accessorized to make any one of the 12 Destroyers in the Sims Class. Tamiya again does not disappoint with the assembly of this kit fairly easy for skill level. I would recommend this especially when doing a diorama as the Hamman was sunk assisting the Yorktown(CV-5) in the Battle of Midway.

"Glad to find this kit"

The 'Hammann' is a well-known destroyer to those who have followed World War II. She is best known for her role in rescuing sailors from the crippled carrier 'Yorktown', during the battle of Midway. This kit re-creates her as she was during that time frame. Like most of their kits, this Waterline series creation is fairly straightforward to put together. At times it can be challenging as there are more than a few small parts and these can be difficult to place, especially for someone with big fingers (like me!). Having said that, there's nothing a pair of tweezers can't handle. Glad to add this destroyer to my collection.

"good ship"

This model has good detail for the size. The parts fit well and the inst sheet in good and the paint chart in clear. Some of the parts are small so take care with them. The decals are only for the one ship but are easy to use a good model for the first timer. For those that ilke more detale go up a scale.
