Woodland Scenics wheel cleaner is super. There are several options for powering the appliance. I simply set it on a straight part of my layout, positioned the locomotive on it, and used my transformer to apply power. One of my locomotives was very old (belonged to my father) and had been lying around an outdoor storage building for decades. It ran but with much hesitation and jerkiness. The wheels were grungy. Used the Tidy Track Roto Wheel Cleaner and now that engine runs fine

Works very well. Easy to use. My locos now run almost like new. A most definite needed tool for the tool box.
