This 1/48 scale kit comes from an American modeling company called Atlantis. The front of the instructions looks like something from an old Revell-Monogram kit, in which I find most interesting. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have three paint schemes to choose from; an all yellow classic box art version, a historically accurate version and a barnstormer version. I did the second version and they are all in color and feature every view except where the engine faces right for some reason. The components fit very well with minimal sanding and spackle. The decals were very easy to take off the paper and apply them to the kit. Although I did have a small problem with the left side decals fortunately, for me, I had similar sized decals at hand to fix the problem. The building instructions are straight forward and easy to understand.
The cons for this kit are as follows: There’s no indication as to what paint company you should use like Humbrol, Tamiya, Mr. Hobby/Mr. Color, Vallejo, etc. There’s also no indication as to what shades of colors you need whatsoever. None of the three markings they present to you have any indication as to what unit the two military versions are from as well as the person who flew the barnstormer version.
In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 4 stars out of 5. Atlantis if you’re reading this, it is a solid kit from you. It would have been nice if you just make a list of which company the paints come from as well as more background information for the three paint schemes. I personally would have liked to have been given the name of one its most known Barnstormer pilots and his group.
