This 1/72 scale kit comes from a French model company called Heller. The
only other kit I’ve built from them was the Lioré-et-Olivier LeO 451 from
two years ago. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have three paint
schemes to choose from and the one I did is Breguet 693 AB2-#84- GBA 1/51
Armée de l'air de Vichy-Lezignan (France)-1942. The other two paint schemes
are Breguet 693 AB2-#1013-GBA II/54 Armée de l'air Bretigny Sur Orge
(France)-21 May 1940 and GBA 1/51 Assault Bombardment Group, 1st squadron
(SPA42). The colored illustrations are very good plus they have every view
you could ask for a model. I had no problems with the decals whatsoever.
It has a low component count of 57 pieces. Well technically 58 if you order
a plastic stand from them which is not included in the box for some reason
or another.
The cons for this kit are as follows: Like the LeO 451, with the exception
of colored illustrations, the entire instructions are written in French
instead of English. So I had to painstakingly translate everything into
English using every translation website known to man. With the nitpicky one
out of the way, other more serious cons included are; the engine cowlings
don’t fit to the wings without additional sanding and spackle. There was no
cockpit floor, seats, or instrument panels included whatsoever. When
dealing with the Vichy French paint scheme, I found out that painting the
engine cowlings and tail surfaces to be quite difficult due to the
inconsistent measurements required to do so. I just wished there were decal
stripes instead.
In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 3 stars out of 5. Heller if you’re
reading this, it’s a good idea for a kit but there are some problems that I
think it would be best if it were taking back to the drawing room. Finally,
it would be nice if you have at least an English version of instructions as
well as French.
