This 1/72 scale kit comes from a well-known Italian model company called Italeri. I’ve built a good number of their kits over the years and most of them were good and this is one them. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have five paint schemes to choose from and the one I did is on the cover of the box called Fiat BR.20M Cicogna 13th Stormo (Wing in Italian), 43rd Gruppo (Group), 3rd Squadriglia (Squadron), Melsbroek, Belgium, Fall 1940. The other four paint schemes included are Fiat BR.20M Cicogna 43rd Stormo, 98th Gruppo, 242nd Squadriglia, Chievres, October 1940; Fiat BR.20 Cicogna 235th Squadriglia, 60th Gruppo, 41st Stormo, Jesi, Italy 1939; Fiat BR.20 Cicogna Aviazione Legionaria (Legionary Air Force in Italian), 35th Gruppo, 235th Bomber Squadron, Veloci Tablada (Sevilla) 1937; and Fiat BR.20 Cicogna 65th Squadriglia, 31st Gruppo, 18th Stormo 1937. The illustrations for the painting and placing of the decals are wonderful to look at as well as having every view possible to help you complete this kid. Most of the components fit well with minimal sanding. There are also options if you want to have different nose section, landing gear, and having the turret going either up or down.
The cons for this kit are as follows: I originally tried to have the turret in the up position but for whatever the reason it wouldn’t fit with the fuselage molded together. I tried sanding both the turret and where it’s supposed to go in the up position but I still couldn’t get it to work so I have the turret in the down position. The last one is subjective and I wish that the squadron, group, and wings the five paint schemes included had English translations as they are written in Italian only.
In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. Italeri if you’re reading this, it’s an excellent kit as a whole but there are some minor glitches that need to be resolved. Nevertheless, job well done!
