Focke-Wulf FW 190D-13

The 1/48 Hobbyboss Focke-Wulf 190D-13 is a good kit for the money. However, I had to invest some additional funds into the build to improve it's accuracy, such as EagleCals EC#19 Yellow 10 Special Release Decal set. The kit does not include the swirl marking on the propeller nose, so I decided to purchase this separate after-market decal set. I also added photo etch seat belts from the Eduard WWII Luftewaffe seat belt set. The kit provides for the addition of pylons and bombs to make a fighter/bomber variant. The kit's parts were a precision fit with no additional filler putty required. The kit included clear wing tip navigation lights in addition to the clear wind screen and canopy parts. The builder should not forget to use the red warning decal on the head rest of the pilot seat, if the builder intends to permanently position the canopy in the closed position. The wing pito tube on the leading edge of the wing will require careful cleanup as it is very thin. There are also three antenna types on the lower surfaces of the aircraft that require careful installation for accurate positioning. The wing mounted guns also require careful installation, as the barrel parts are thin and must be precisely aligned to mounting holes inside the wings. Due to the complex paint scheme necessary to create the Yellow 10 version of this aircraft, I would recommend this model to intermediate to advanced modelers with delicate airbrushing skills. If the builder wants to build the Yellow 10 version and is up for a challenging camouflage painting scheme, then this kit is for you.
