IS-2 Stalin Heavy Tank

I built the T-34/76 mod 43 and this kit. The IS-2 did not assemble as neatly as the T-34. The end result is a fine kit. Zvezda, has made great kits. Good for table top or display. the detail is superb. Although a snap kit, I recommend glue (at least the smaller pieces). The kit is flash free.and packed well. Zvezda kits are still easier to build (faster) than multi-piece kits, and the results are similar. Highly recommend.

Given the fact that this kit is rather cheap in price, and that is a snap fit type (no glue in general), This created concerns for me about how I would end up, It seems like it's made for begginers only. Well, i was wrong. This kit molding is very crisp and is devoid of any sink marks, pin marks or flash in the visible locations, everything fits almost perfect. In general, it's true, about the snap fit, i used only a few drops of glue. the level of detail is very high for this scale. The kit comes with only one marking option, with very nice decals (Berlin '45 offensive), in fact i've decided to paint the white stripes with the airbrush, in my opinion, it's very difficult for the decals imitate some surfaces of this tank, also the decals come with generic numbers, which is very nice. The real problem i found, was the tracks, they are sinlge-piece hard polystyrene parts, they are very well designed, but it taked me a lot of work to Put them the right way (i even broke a sprocket). In fact, i've usually have problems with rubber tracks also, so the real problem here, it's probably me. No open hatch in this kit. The instructions are easy to understand. The finished IS-2, although it seemed simple at first, looks great to me in the end.
