Unless you have a burning desire for a 1960 Ranchero, skip this one. Engineering is awful; the molding is even worse - and don't get me started on the instructions....
First, the pros: ..... Um. The body was pretty clean. .... Uh ... It IS a Ranchero. ... Let's see .... The Ford and Ranchero logos were cleanly molded and easy to detail with chrome paint. The decal sheet is neat - my (now 81 year old) drinks Cokes (the ones made in Mexico, with sugar instead of corn syrup!) and has a white painted aluminum insulating cover to keep it cold; I used a couple of the decals to dress it up!!
And now, the cons. Grab a cup of coffee or a Coke .....
Examples of poor quality - the fan belt/pulley system had 2 LONG prongs coming off it - one is for the fan, and the other shouldn't be there at all - and the mounting prong for the fan is too thick! I had to cut off the lower piece and trim down the fan mount. The windshield is THICK, and keeps the interior from settling into place, even after major trimming. The driver's side exhaust extension was too long - had to trim it down. The metal axles are too long - and I wound up trimming them a shade too much (may need to replace them with a styrene rod..). The radiator is HORRID - you mount it seemingly backwards, and there's no fan shroud. (And that's just the beginning!!)
And whose bright idea was it to have a three on the tree shifter AND a chrome floor shifter??? As we say in the South, bless his HEART!!
On to details, or lack thereof. Dashboard - no dash decal, and the dash itself lacks any meaningful molding (like gauges) - you're left with giving the impression of a dash. The window cranks and interior door latches are a mere suggestion. Seat is molded into the bucket. Exterior door handles are molded on. The exhaust, driveshaft, and front and rear suspensions are molded into the floor pan, which in turn is molded with the frame - the front metal axle runs through the engine.
Speaking of engine - you get a small-block V8 with chrome water pump/front engine cover, carburetor, air cleaner, ribbed valve covers - it's reasonably well done (except for that funny looking hole for the axle!!). There's no stock inline 6 option.
Mold lines and ejection pin marks are EVERYWHERE and pretty bad in some spots. Flash is ridiculous - at times I was wondering where the flash ended and the part began. Fit was iffy in a lot of spots. I spend 8 hours building this thing - a lot of it was waiting for paint to dry, but a lot more was trimming flash.
Extras - you get a dealymabopper thingy to mount this abomination on the wall!! There's some extra body mod parts - essentially just a couple hood louvres, a custom roof topper, a tonneau cover and supports, dual AM radio antennas (!!??), and some WEIRD tri-spoke wheels. The Coke crates are molded in clear greenish-blue (a good simulation of Coke bottles) with no way to simulate full bottles - and tough to paint between the bottles. It can be done, but ... and there are decals for the outside of the crates. The Coke vending machine is pretty good. - it's the ONLY saving grace for this kit.
I have never just thrown a partially assembled kit in the trash - I paid for these things, I am gonna finish them - but I came close with this one.
