"Another Re-pop of an older kit, fun to build"

AMT has had a lot of success with this kit. First it's an iconic car that almost everyone on the planet recognizes. Second, the kit has some good details and the 454 engine is a great engine. Lastly, the car is fairly easy to build in its box stock form. I had trouble getting the exhaust and headers to line up to glue together. I wound up cutting a small piece of aluminum tubing to use as a coupler. I added some copper wire to mimic the fuel line and ran it from the gas tank to the fuel pump on the bottom of the engine. The body in my kit had depressed lines on the B post to the rear window that had to be filled in. I feel confident this is from the continued use of an old mold. Easy fix for most modelers. All the windows fit in smooth. make sure to trim the openings on the from of the body where the headlight bezels go in before painting. Mine was too tight before painting and would have never fit once paint was applied.

"Fine Old Chevelle"

The AMT (Round 2) re-release of the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 is a welcome return of a fine old kit. It's an older tool to be sure and some of the interior details are soft, but all in all, there's a lot about it to like. Flash is minimal and most details will clean up with a few swipes of a No.11 hobby blade. The seats, steering wheel, and dash are nicely done and will really pop if you choose to detail them. The 454 engine is decent, though I used an aftermarket distributor and plug wires on mine. There is no alternator bracket or lower radiator hose, but it's not really that noticeable unless you look close. One stumbling block are the headlight buckets to body fit. I had to do a lot of careful carving and filing to get an acceptable fit. It would likely be improved if the buckets weren't attached to the rest of the grill assembly. The wheels and tires are decent, though for my build I wanted to go with larger modern wheels and low profile tires. I borrowed some suitable items from a Revell 1955 Chevy I had in my stash. I raised the rear suspension two scale inches to get a more aggressive stance. I used the white hood & trunk lid panel decals for my build. I was glad I'd selected a fairly light pearl blue base color because the decal opacity was light and it would have been noticeable had I selected a darker base color. I love 454 Chevelles and this kit has lots going for it!

"Nice kit"

This was my first model I've built since I was teenager. I enjoyed building it and I've done a few more since then. Enjoyable and easy to build.

This kit takes a little effort to build into a decent looking model. There mold release lines on the sail panels and the top of the fenders up by the headlights. There are two raised sink marks on the trunk lid that need to be sanded down. Also to get the rear tires to mount inside the wheel wells the rear axle needs about a 1/4 inch shaved off. Maybe I just got the wrong rear metal axle in my kit. Last but not least, I believe all AMT engines are scaled to small, looks like a small block in the engine compartment instead of a 454. Anyway I suppose it turned out ok.
