"Flutter?"

This kit - honestly I wouldn't recommend this one for a beginner. its a interesting concept, but honestly I haven't seen it work well. you need some power, but not too much power. We lost this on a C6-5 (in a big field). Stability was marginal with this motor. however a A8-3 is barely enough. ours had the tendency to roll over at apogee before the ejection charge went off. The rocket was upside down and the ejection charge would fire, sending the top of the rocket down like a missile. yep, straight down (no flutter) . we just couldn't seem to get it to work right. I saw some other folks launch one and it did the same thing... Our next experiment (before loosing it) was to try a booster engine with no delay, or one with very short delay. We had a 2nd kit and I will likely just use the parts for something else. Might work for someone more willing to fiddle with it that I was. By the way, my one son (7) loved playing with this as a static model. He loved the idea of it blowing apart in mid air - but as a real rocket at the field... didn't quite work out for us.

"Very good small field bird"
wallyum (Ft. Thomas, KY)
I'm always intrigued by rockets with unusual recovery systems, so this one was a natural for me. The build is fairly easy, the toughest part being lining up the strakes on the fins. Painting is very simple, a quick spray of silver on one half, red on the other. I liked Joe's suggestion of tethering the two halves together with Kevlar. Fairly nose heavy with the clay weight, so performance is perfect for a small field like mine. First flight was an A8-3, but I'd feel comfortable trying this one with a B6-4.

"flutterby fun"

This rocket is an easy build. I made one change. To avoid chasing after 2 separate pieces, I added a piece of Kevlar thread tied to an elastic shock cord. This allows the rocket to separate into two pieces and flutter down together. Very helpful on windy days. Flew it on and A 8-3, B 6-4, and a C6-5 (out of sight). All successful flights. This is easy to build and fun to fly and retrieve. joe

"DO NOT USE ENGINE CLIP"
Rocket_starship (Boonton, NJ)
If you intend this to be a tumble recovery rocket do not follow the instructions and use the engine clip, it will tear out of the engine tube. It may seem obvious but not to a beginner rocketeer. Loved the flight, loved the fun it brought, but repair for the rocket will be in order if you use the engine clip with tumble recovery.
