"A German army strangled by the USAAF"
hhpodesta
This Osprey Air Campaign series book begins with a summary of the struggling Allied campaign in Italy up through the fall of 1944. It became clear that the Germans Gothic Line might be broken only if its defenders were starved of critical supplies coming through the Brenner Pass into northern Italy. The task of cutting that supply line fell largely to the 57th Bomber Group, flying out of Corsica. Its B-25 Mitchell bombers would fly hundreds of missions against German supply lines. This story is nicely supported by lots of period photographs and modern illustrations and air battle diagrams. The author has done his homework with the records and with surviving members of the 57th Bomber Group. This is a page-turning narrative, very well recommended to students of the air war in WW2.
