"Five star tractor from Roden"
Full Steam Ahead
I have never had a Roden kit before and the quality has really impressed me with this kit. I was drawn to it as I like old farm equipment and this is a unique change of pace. A fun area on the kit is all the exposed mechanical parts unique to Holt. I am built mine as a stateside farm version but you have choices for military and construction as well. Decals are for military only. The kit has little flash and is bigger than I expected (I normally don’t do 1:35) A few problem areas are injection marks on the roof and backside of the track pads. It includes nice instructions and goes together very nicely. I am very impressed and highly recommend it.

"Holt Artillery Tractor 1918 US Army - Challenging and Interesting Subject"

This is an unusual subject for a 1/35 scale kit, there are not a lot of prime movers for artillery kits out there, and the finished model is 4 1/2” X 6 ½” in size. It is larger than a comparable FT 17 tank kit from the same period. It is rich in detail with a gasoline engine with more than 30 parts and a fully detailed suspension. It is important to ensure that all parts, particularly the frame and suspension are kept straight, otherwise follow-on parts will not sit right on the model. There are two major drawbacks and they are that every part has to be cleaned of all flash, ejection pin marks, and molding seams before being assembled and the decals are of extremely poor quality and should be replaced if possible before being used. They were very thick and shiny and refused to sit down tight even with decal solutions.

"Not for the beginner"

I chose this model because it is unique and I wanted to add a WWI model to my collection. I managed to build it with a pretty good result but this is an old kit with a lot of flash and mismatched moldings. A lot of sanding, trimming, and above all test fitting is required to successfully complete this kit. It is definitely not for the beginner and be prepared to take your time with this model. I will say that the tracks were very good with little to no flash or ejector pin marks.
