I bought this to replicate the 1974 Autocar I owned and operated (and lived in) for 6 yrs/ It was a pleasure constructing it from start to finish. An easy kit assemble, but I needed a Detroit 8V71 ( from the 352 Peterbuilt offered by AMT) so it took a bit longer and a lot of tweaking to swap motors). A walk down memory lane was an added plus building it. I was glad Hobbylinc offered it and recommend it for a worthwhile modeling project.

"Fun build!"

I'm a long-haul trucker, old-school. I love the older trucks, even though I drive a late model Peterbilt 389. This came out VERY well. I had some fit troubles with all axles - the metal rods for the rear axles were nearly an inch too long; the inner rods on the front axle were too long and I had to trim them to get the steer tire assemblies to fit right. The pedals weren't well planned - the hanging clutch and brake assembly was simply too wide for the space available, and would have put the brake pedal behind the throttle - I left the hanging assembly out. I didn't like the idea of being able to detail the batteries - then glue the covers on! I detailed one battery set and left that box open, and put the cover on the other. The rest went together quite well; there seemed to be a fair amount of trimming needed, but (as we say on the cb) ain't nuthin a big strapper like you can't handle!

This truck was the 1st semi sized truck I built in about 50 yrs. I built AMT's White Freightliner Cabover with the CF double trailers back in the 1970s. This Autocar came out good as a logging truck, with AMT's Peerless logging trailer. I saw some Youtube videos on weathering and tried my luck with good results. Take your time and this kit will give good results! I like the grill guard and the headache rack provided in the trailer kit. I was going to rob the diamond plate fenders from the Autocar dump truck and use them in this kit, but the provided fenders came out so well that I just left them on. I like the look of the Autocar tractors. Brings back memories of logging trucks when I was a kid here in eastern Oregon. Nothing like the scent of freshly cut lumber!
