Very good model I really like the choice of track type, I used belt type on this one. I will try the length an link on the next one. Step 9, and 8, parts A5 and A6. Be very careful removing them from the sprue , and study the directions very carefully. Parts R3 step 12, didn't work well at all. Try attaching them to R1, and checking how they work with part D1, I could not get them to rotate so I clipped the feet off, and glued and pinned the turret on, not moveable. mI never figured out parts F17 + F20, they might go on top of the turret. If so a hole will likely be need in part R2. These are the only trouble I had, all my fault. Moderate skill needed. YES I recommend the kit, I will be getting another at some point

The manufacturer designation of the item is a bit misleading/erroneous in the usage of the term Lightweight, as the turret configuration with the bulging ring of metal around the turret rear MG was used exclusively in the KV-1 M1942 late production Up-Armored Cast Turret simplified example, which had become standardized in production. Lightweight and Up-Armored are a contradiction in terms. The model itself is detailed quite well, and I was quite pleased with the purchase. The bow MG and its protection strip are separate add-on items, as is the V-shaped frontal turret race protection strip, however the 2 small rear turret race protection strips are molded onto the hull rear deck. Without removal, it limits the hull's usage in alternate projects to 1941 early production units. I have seen other Trumpeter kits that have those strips omitted, or as optional add-ons, which would be nice to see in any updated versions of this kit. That would allow the hull to be used for projects clear back to the 1939/1940 production units. The gun and mantle can be swapped out for those from a KV-8 (resin cast?), for the 1942 late production Up-Armored Cast KV-8 version. The overall quality of the kit is excellent, and I would recommend it to others seeking that ever-elusive KV-1 M1942 late production Up-Armored Cast Turret version.
