"Bachmann deserves a little love"

Bachmann produces a wide variety of freight cars at a good price. I had never seen a Susquehanna box car before and liked the design, so I got it. Bachmann pros include high quality moldings and paint, metal wheels and axles, decent underbody detail, and their EZ mate couplers, which are light years better than Atlas' Accumate, which they license from Accurail. EZ mates aren't quite as good as Kadees, but at least I don't immediately replace them like I do Accumates. Bachmann also uses 2 full length weights in their cars, which I like but others might not. The weights make them very stable. This particular car comes with opening doors, which is kind of silly because the open doors reveal the double weights which really can't be hidden. By the way, the weights are screwed down to the under carriage so they aren't going anywhere. Bachmann cons include some clunky details, like the frame the doors slide in. It is oversized and actually catches on things that are close to the tracks. The roof walk is also a little clunky and sits too high off the car body. Finally the plastic Bachmann uses is a bit shiny, at least compared to Atlas, Bowser and other cars. Overall Bachmann cars are a pleasant surprise and quite good for filling out a fleet.

"Good for bachmann"

I purchased this because I got one in a set and wanted some matching rolling stock. It is certainly my least problematic piece of rolling stock. Pros: • price, it is lower than most brands but still works very well • rolls very well • these couplers have not caused me problems yet, they are at an effective height and never decouple Cons: none
