"Border 1/35 Tiger 1 Early Production"
Christopher A. Wing (Fresno, CA)
This 1/35 Tiger kit is loaded with extra stowage and photo etch parts. The kit is somewhat pricey, but not as costly as it's Dragon Tiger 1 alternatives. With this kit, the builder can make up to eight versions of this famous tank. The tracks have hollow guide horns that must be manually installed on the individual track pieces that fit around the sprocket and idler wheels. On the longer length pieces the hollow guide horns are molded on. If this is not for you, then a set of aftermarket tracks might be preferred. In addition to photo etch screens and barbed wire parts, the kit comes with a metal barrel. The muzzle brake is slide molded and requires that a bore ring be installed inside it. Finally it is capped off by an exterior bore ring on it's business end. A clear plastic periscope ring is provided that slides beneath the round commander's cuppula on the top of the turret. The turret body is single piece, therfore no seam filling is required. It is recommended that Mr. Hobby Surfacer 500 be stippled on this part to simulate rolled steel texture. Similar to the kit's Dragon counterpart the gun assembly includes a rudimentary breech assembly in addition to the commander's and loader's seats. The kit has 5 different styles of turret basket to select from, depending on which version is selected. This is an area that requires careful attention as to what parts to use for the separate versions. Full color prints of the various paint schemes are provided using Ammo by Mig Acrylic Paint call outs. Overall a highly comprehensive kit with which to construct a July to August 1943, Kursk Tiger 1.
