"Ryefield Tiger 1 Initial North African Front"
Christopher A. Wing (Fresno, CA)
The Ryefield Tiger 1 Initial Production early 1943 North African Front/Tunisia 1/35 model rivals the Dragon Model rendition of this same vehicle. The kit includes workable link tracks which will take considerable time to build. The turret fit is very tight, so rotating the turret can be troublesome. Photo etch engine grills and clear plastic molded periscope parts are included. As an added bonus, a set of 3D printed parts consisting of smoke dischargers, a covered muzzle brake, and a covered bow mg 42 are included. The decal sheet has tank numbers to build historically accurate DAK (Deutsche Afrka Korps) tiger 1 initial vehicles. Some builders may not like the single piece of string provided to make the tow cables for this tank. Fieffel air filtration parts and the correct angular muffler covers are provided in this kit. Each side fender consists of four separately precut parts that are correctly mounted in the kinked configuration. Rear mud flaps with rounded corners demonstrate that the kit's designers did thorough research to ensure the model's historical accuracy. When painting this kit it was brought to my attention by an Adam Mann YouTube video that the wrong paint color is called out for on the painting and marking guide for this kit. I used Vallejo 71.028 Sand Yellow for this version of the DAK Tiger 1 instead of RLM02 Gray called out on the painting guide. The builder will need to do further research when selecting proper decal placement, if building a different vehicle other than No. 141. One last modification that needs to be made is to move the tool box on the rear of the vehicle slightly away from the edge of this panel. With minor modifications and some DAK tiger 1 assembly research a historically accurate and highly detailed replica of a North African Front/Tunisia Tiger 1 Initial can be built.
