Outstanding for 19 Century modeling
I model ACW (American Civil War) era. Slowly, I'm moving from Horn Hook and Kadee couplers to these Link & Pin units. I tried Gilpin Tram L&P and although the size is more prototypical for HO, the plastic construction doesn't hold up as well as these metal ones. These Alexander pieces are oversize for HO but the Proto look and feel of using them far outweighs the minor size problem.

Link and Pin functioning
I model/operate my HO layout in an early rail setting. American Civil War through the Golden Spike era. Using Link and Pin was desirable to me for the atmosphere that they would bring to my layout and it's operations. They can be difficult most times and require a bit of finesse to work them but in the end, I really enjoy the functioning and skills involved with them.
