LaGG3 Series 7-11 Soviet Fighter Africanda Airfield

I just finished this model yesterday and while the finished product looks okay one must be aware of a few things regarding the building of same. The decal sheet, while adequate in its markings giving a choice of two different aircraft, was without a doubt one of the worst I have dealt with in some time. The decals are extremely flimsy and despite my best efforts, I managed to tear about half of them in applying them to the aircraft. They come off the sheet okay but repositioning them was a chore. I would consider after market decals if I were to build this model again. The fit overall is average and a fair bit of putty was required to seal some gaps. It is also tricky as the plastic is very thin without a lot to match up. Once together and puttied, she looks okay. The main part of the canopy is extremely thin and care must be taken not to break it as I did. One must be very careful when cutting pieces off of the sprues as many are very tiny and as mentioned the plastic is very thin and can easily be damaged. The instruction sheet is rudimentary and not a lot of help. I sat scratching my head on a few occasions trying to figure out which bits go where and how. There are plenty of spare pieces allowing for different sub types to be built so some research ahead of time and making your choice before you start is a must. I chose this aircraft as I wanted to have an example of this nice little fighter in my collection. I would have a hard time recommending it to anyone unless they felt a need for a challenge or they were a lover of the LaGG 3. As always, these comments reflect my experience with this build and perhaps some of the issues mentioned are my fault. Cheers, jeff
