I purchased this kit to build the Sachs and Sons Comet, a supercharged, nitro burning forerunner to the flip top funny cars driven by Jack Chrisman. I bought the decals for this build in the mid-90s! The kit is essentially an unassembled promo, and as such has only 30 or so parts. Engine, exhaust, and suspension details are molded into the chassis plate, the interior bucket has the seats molded in, and the wheels attach using metal axles. For what you get, it is a bit pricey. For a tool first issued in 1964, there is remarkably little flash and the parts fit very well, with the caveat that I only used around 10 of them for my build. The body captures the overall shape very well, but the panel line scribing is a bit on the light side and the molded in trim is not as crisp as I would like, making foiling difficult. The kit includes a very nice set of whitewall tires, full wheel covers, and crisply printed decals representing cars used in durability runs conducted in 1963. There are a couple of bonus parts, including a trophy on the chrome sprue, and for dog lovers, a 1/25th scale pup. Built as a stocker, this offering is squarely aimed at someone new to the hobby, and would look very nice on your shelf. Alternatively, dip into your parts box, go wild, and use it as the basis for a street machine or drag racing subject.
