An excellent kit by Accurail. This is my first kit from this company, and my first rail car kit since Athearn announced the discontinuation of their kits several years ago.
It was really nice to get back into building my own rail cars, and being able to easily detail them to my liking without having to disassemble the model first. On top of that, this Accurail kit is already nicely detailed as-is, and I only plan on adding air hoses and weathering the model before use.
Cost factor- While not as cheap as the kits from the good old days (but what is cheep today?) this kit, as well as many other Accurail kits, are still about half the price of most ready-to-run rail cars offered, which means that, for about 10 minutes of work building this kit, the adverage modeler will save anywhere from 5- 20 per rail car, meaning more money to spend on hobby expenses.
I have not quite finished my model yet, but it has so far gone together with no real problems from manufacturing. My only real complaint is with some ears left on the rail car's floor that must be trimmed off and filed flush before placing it onto the boxcar shell. While it's only a minor issue (doesn't detract from the kit in any way) it seems like something that could have been done at the factory with little problem.
I do recommend this kit for anyone with any skill level.
