Excellent Paint
This is a very nice black. It, like most other Tamiya paints, lays down smooth with an airbrush. I thinned with Tamiya acrylic thinner at a ratio of 3 parts paint 1 part thinner and sprayed at 20psi. It went down well, dried to a nearly perfect color of black. I have Used other paints such as Model Masters and Valejo, and all of them seem to be overly glossy even for gloss paint, but this was the perfect shade. I would say that the only down side to this paint is the cost. Per ounce it is about 2x more expensive than Model Masters, but the quality is definitely worth the cost.
excellent finish
This Tamiya, X-1 black, acrylic paint s easy to apply and provides an excellent finish.
I last used it on my P-61 Black Widow model and am quite pleased with the results.
Color is nice but....
The black color when dried looks very nice. It's very glossy and looks great.
Unfortunately, it scratches a bit too easily. The paint doesn't literally scratch off, but it does scratch which makes it less glossy. It's nowhere near as tough as model master's enamel black, but then again that's enamel.
When I use a acrylic gloss coat, it's slightly more durable, but still not good enough. I don't don't know about other enamel coats, but the clear enamel coat I used made it more dull. So unfortunate that such a nice gloss paint scratches so easily.
I'll still recommend it because the paint is still excellent to work with.
