This is a great kit. I have built a couple of these kits. The 8-V-71 Detroit Diesel engine is Awesome, great detail. The interior Is highly detailed and true to the real one. You can Google the truck and find pictures of this on line to help detailing. This is an early 1970's truck. The whole kit is highly detailed and true to the real one. The only tricky part is attaching the cab to the frame. The pins for the cab hinges are attached to the front bumper and are delicate. Care is needed to attach the cab. The instructions are very clear on how to do it. You can't be in a hurry to do it. It takes over night to let the glue dry fully. You also need to prop up the cab with something to keep it lined up. This kit as any Semi- tractor kit can be modified but adding a truck body to it. It looks great with the rack body from the Ford C-600 stake truck with the frame a little longer. Make the frame longer and you can use the Ford LN 8000 box truck body or the Ford C-600 box. That will be awesome. You will need to have building skill to build this kit. Not for a newer builder But if you have a few truck builds under your belt you should be able to do it OK. I highly recommended it.
I purchased this model to replicate the 1978 Pete we bought brand new. A very nice ride back then. It took about six months to finish as I used the 6 cyl Cummins out of the Autocar model, so there was a lot of tweaking and adjustments to say the least. Even without the interchange it was a challenging project to get it almost perfect. It is more for advanced modelers and would recommend it to those with some experience. A fair price for this item makes it an even more attractive purchase.
The kit is well detailed but it is from an old moulding. My example had a ton of flash on it, making the build a bit of an exercise in part cleanup. The frame rails were a bit warped, so hot water was needed to straighten them - and the wheels were a bit of a tricky fit, but eventually went together. My biggest issue with the kit was that about 1/4 of the part numbers do not match what they are on the instructions. I ended up just removing all from the sprues and cleaning them up before doing the 'ole Lego method of searching for a matching piece in the pile. This made it a slow build but in the end I am happy with the end result. This is not for a first time modeler, but for someone with some experience and modeling skills. It does build into a great looking truck in the end - and you can choose to build it according to the box, or let the creative juices flow and come up with your own paint like I did.
