California Mission Nuestra Senora
This is the Nuestra Senora de la Soledad Missions of California Educational Project. Parental Supervision is Recommended.:
Its solitary location in the Salinas River Valley led padres to name this 13th mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad (Our Lady of Solitude). Founded on October 9, 1791, its purpose was to facilitate travel between Mission San Carlos de Borromeo de Carmelo and Mission San Antonio de Padua. Floodwaters destroyed Nuestra Senora de la Soledad three times. Cold winters and grueling summers took their toll on the 30 priests who served there over its 44 years in operation. Like most other missions, it then lapsed into disrepair and ruin. Restoration was begun in the 1950s by a group of women known as the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Today, Nuestra de la Soledad serves as a mission of the parish of Soledad.:
