The German Luftwaffe had the good fortune to start the Second World War with an exceptionally good fighter aircraft, the Bf 109D/E. It also had a cadre of pilots with combat experience from the Spanish Civil War. The result was an early edge in air combat against Poland, France, the Netherlands and the UK.
This new Osprey Dogfight series book gets right into air combat, before stepping back to explore the origins of the Bf 109D/E. The narrative draws heavily from wartime accounts. It features some excellent descriptions of air combat, nicely supported by great period photographs and modern illustrations and battle diagrams. Well recommended to students of the air war of WW2.
