"Versatility is Important in Highly Modified Builds"
michael.miller (michael.miller@windstream.net)
Finding standard kits from the 30's - 50's that are not irreversibly hot rod builds and that allow enough modification latitude to allow the creation of historically accurate reproductions of early Stock Cars raced at Daytona and elsewhere is increasingly difficult. We build each model from information gathered from original specifications, builder notes as well as still and video images of the cars. We try to create reproductions that would cause the builder or driver to say, Yes, that's the car we raced. You've captured it in that model. The 1950 Olds Custom #854022 purchased has the versatility to allow modifications for a high level of reproduction. Each car we produce is unique and we accomplish that through careful modification and the addition of discrete details. It would be nice to have a broader variety of engine types and, for our purposes, important parts not always chromed; however, for the typical builder, this kit is very good and we are satisfied to remove the chrome from some parts to achieve our goals. The parts fit well, the instructions are adequate and the details are clear enough to add realism to the model.

One plastic model

First and foremost I have to say Revell kits are awesome this kit has no flash or mold lines and the parts fit is amazing I found it very fun to assemble it's not a difficult level 3 so I think even a novice model builder should have no trouble with this kit. I looked and this kit has a lot of parts in common with the club coupe version except this kit does not have the race car version. There are many chrome parts you can use that are not listed in the instructions such as the 88 emblems, hood ornament, and the chrome tail light and turn signal trim. The instructions are clear and easy to understand I consider myself an average model builder and for me this kit was very fun. Also this version comes with a 3 carb intake set up and not the single carb setup that the club coupe has.

This is a very good kit. No flashing or fit issues. The windshield and windows fit well, no gaps. It has printed whitewalls. I prefer these over the plastic inserts found in some kits. No problems getting the body on the chassis. Instructions are adequate. The decals are minimal, but a choice of pinstripe colors and license plates. I really enjoyed the build and was pleased with the finished car. Its an excellent model for the price.

"1950 Olds Custom"
Very good skill 3 kit. Everything fit together with precision and instructions are detailed. Not a lot of trimming/sanding was needed on the parts, and no putty was needed. There are a few different ways you can build the kit with optional wheels, suspension heights and decals. It took me about a week to assemble working on it a few hours in the evenings after work. I decided to try my hand at a un-restored patina'd paint job on this one, and it came out well. Take note, this is different than the similar 1950 Olds Coupe 2n1 model. This is a custom coupe with lowered suspension and a few custom trim options. The Olds Coupe 2n1 kit is either a stock Olds coupe or a racing version.

Due to small parts that could cause a choking hazard please kee away from children 3 years of age and younger.
