"1/48 Scale Kit Morane-Saulnier MS230/C23 Review"
Alex Biever
This 1/48 scale kit comes from a Ukrainian model company called Dora Wings. The only other kit I’ve built from them was the Dewoitine D.510 from a few years ago. That kit was not a good one at all from what I remember and this one is not that much better. The pros for this kit are as follows: You have three paint schemes to choose from. The one I did is on the cover of the box called Morane-Saulnier MS.230/C.23, OK-QHL, Brno-Medlánky Aero club, 1950. The other two paint schemes included are; Morane-Saulnier MC-230 Et2, No 1077, Prague-Kbely, Aircraft muzeum, 2012 and Morane-Saulnier MC-230 Et2, No 138, pilot capitane Amouroux, Hight pilotage school Etampes, 1932. In each paint scheme, there are a good amount of views that make it much easier to place your decals. Most of the pieces fit well with minimal sanding. The cons for this kit are as follows: The engine assembly is quite confusing in this kit. It is unclear as to which part of the exhaust pipes goes into the engine and which part is the actual exhaust end. If you want to do scheme 3 which is Morane-Saulnier MC-230 Et2, No 138, pilot capitane Amouroux, Hight pilotage school Etampes, 1932; you’ll have to make some something from scratch that covers the front cockpit area of the fuselage. What they should’ve done is provide you that piece instead but no they didn’t. Another thing about paint scheme 3 is that it has blue and white paints on it but they don’t provide you what shade of blue and paint on the color table. Matter of fact they didn’t even label the colors on each view of the aircraft. The decals are rather delicate and fold over too easily. I had to apply some black paint to touch up some of the decals that were ripped apart. There’s also no brief description on the aircraft itself. In conclusion, I give this kit a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5. Dora Wings if you’re reading this, I highly recommend that you take your time with your instructions because it appears incomplete to me. In other words make them easier to read and understand as well as properly label the colors for painting purposes. Also make your decals not so fragile and if you do all of these suggestions, I promise you that your future kits will be much better than the ones you’ve made before.
