Union Cavalry

From the perspective of building a wargaming unit, this set is close to being great, but it falls a little short. With 15 mounted figures and 2 dismounted, you just don’t have enough dismounted cavalry without looking around to supplement from other sets. I would have either preferred a more even distribution of mounted and dismounted or all mounted. The poses are excellent, though, so my grumbling is based more on a compulsion I have for the numbers to work out and is, in the grand scheme of things, utterly insignificant. The dismounted troopers are in two poses: 1 kneeling/firing and one reloading. Happily, both come with horses, so that adds a lot of flexibility to what can be depicted. The 15 mounted troopers come in 9 poses, and you get one each of these: Bugler, Colors, and Spyglass Guy. The other 6 poses have two figures apiece: Carbine/firing, Pistol, and 4 poses with sabers, all of whom also carry firearms. The figures are mostly facing forwards, so that helps in creating a sense of unified direction and movement in cavalry bases. The figures look great when painted, and they are sturdy like most Italeri products. Bear in mind: the engraved colors for the set are utter garbage. They should be modified to become useful. This set is really nice and gets my recommendation.
