The mounted component of this set is nice, but limited. Sadly, there is no musician, and the man with the colors has a garbage flag that needs to be replaced, but the 9 troopers in three poses are all looking to one side or the other; it appears that no one cares what is in front of them. In the middle of a swirling melee in a diorama, this would be fine, but it looks awkward unless you mix the poses with some forward-facing troopers from other sets. The officer is fine, though he is also barely differentiated from a normal trooper in appearance. This actually expands his utility for my purposes. The cavalry are primarily armed with pistols and carbines, so that is very useful in “watering down” the excessive number of waving sabers I feel are represented in some sets. Where this set really shines is in the dismounted component. Dismounted cavalry are not too common in 1/72 scale, so the nine troopers here really flesh out the numbers available when combined with some other sets. There are also a couple infantry poses thrown in that are classic kneeling/firing and standing/firing poses. You can’t really go wrong with that for the purposes of wargaming I really like this set, and I recommend it, but not as a standalone product. It has a nice mixture of useful units, and the sculpting in the copies I have is nice and crisp.
