U.S. Heavy M26 Pershing Toons

Sometimes, you want a break from serious or more complex modeling and want to take on something lighthearted and a little easier to put together. Such was the case for me when I got frustrated with two models in a row because of poor fitting parts, excessive flash, and so on. I found myself growing frustrated with the hobby and contemplated a long break from it. On a whim, I’d recently ordered a Meng “Toon” M26 Pershing. It was sitting on top of my stash and it caught my eye as I started to leave my workstation on what might have been my last day building for quite some time. It was just what the doctor ordered. The toon went together quickly with very little problems with fit. I was mildly surprised at it’s relative accuracy to the real subject, considering it’s in truth a caricature of the real thing. The biggest problem I had with it, and why I can’t give it five stars, was with what I felt to be quite of a bit of flash on many parts, including the antenna. Painting was no problem and I used it is as a sort of canvas to practice filtering with washes. It was the break I needed, and I’m now on to my next serious project, a Tamiya M5 Stuart. After the Stuart, I plan to build, in tandem, the Meng KV2 Toon and Tamiya’s recently released KV2. Highly recommended for younger modelers, beginners, and anyone needing a break from more serious subjects or more difficult kits.
