F-14 Tomcat in Action Color

Despite the title, this is not exactly an operational history of the Tomcat. There are brief references to the F-14's deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation El Dorado Canyon, and Operation Enduring Freedom, but the book is more of a development history and discussion of the different variants. Service history with Iran is almost completely ignored. There are a handful of photos and drawings illustrating the differences between the F-14A, A+, B, and D variants, and plenty of color photos of the jet in action. There are a few color profiles, but virtually no detail photos (for these, I assume you have to buy the Walkaround book, or better, look for detail photos on modelling websites). The development history is fairly complete, covering testing, changes to the aircraft, and which (US) units used the Tomcat when. Unfortunately, there is no treatment of the combat use, although there is a pretty good discussion of weapons systems. The book ends with a list of surviving airframes on display, if you wanted to see the legendary 'plane for yourself. It does have the advantage of being much cheaper than the more in-depth monographs by Osprey or Ginter, though.
