Tamiya Battleship World War II Ship Models

This is a 1/350 Plastic German Battleship Bismarck from Tamiya. It's for ages 10 and up.

With many revolutionary features incorporated into her design, the Yamato was completed in December 1941, and met her final fate at the hands of American Navy carrier aircraft in the South China Sea while on a one way mission to Okinawa. This model features minor modifications to Tamiya's previous Yamato replicas Items 78002 and 78014, and has her looking as she did just prior to departing for her final mission, in an exquisite 1/350 scale assembly kit display model. The Yamato's massive imposing silhouette is accurately reproduced, and both the main gun turrets and secondary armament turrets can be rotated even after assembly.

The Iowa Class Battleships were the largest and final great battleships of the US Navy. They included the BB-61 Iowa, the BB-62 New Jersey, and the third ship, the famous BB-63 Battleship Missouri. These ships, which boasted an amazing 212,000hp allowing a 33knots max speed, were armed with massive 40.6cm main guns. The Iowa Class ships stretched 270.4m but were relatively thin, with only 33m max length, enabling these ships to pass through the Panama Canal. The ship was launched on Feb 21, 1939 and completed for service on Oct 1,1940 by which time World War 2 had already been fought for a year. After a trip to USA, she covered the Lofoten raid (March 1941) and Atlantic convoys before becoming flagship of the British Home Fleet in April 1941. In May 1941 she led the chase of the German Bismarck and saw action for the first time. The Gneisenau went into commission on 21st May, 1938. Ranking with the Scharnhorst, she was the biggest and most powerful battleship in the German Fleet of those days. Her displacement had been announced to be 26,000 tons, but in fact her standard displacement was 31,800 tons. The Musashi was the second ship in the Yamato-class which were the largest battleships ever built. Completed in 1942, the Musashi took part in various campaigns before finally meeting her fate at the hands of U.S. Navy aircraft in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Tamiya's precision-made assembly kit model recreates this giant battleship in exquisite detail, including her defensive anti-aircraft suite of numerous single 25mm cannons on the main deck. This different anti-aircraft armament makes for an interesting comparison with the Yamato. Tamiya rereleased Musashi in 1981 and this great model kit is available again with new mast parts.

The British Battleship Prince of Wales was the second ship of the King George V class. Soon after her completion in March 1941, she was involved in the historic hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. In October she was deployed to South-East Asia to fortify the important British post of Singapore. However, her short career of a mere 9 months came to a dramatic end when intercepted by Japanese bombers in what was to be known as the "Battle of Malaya". The Yamato-class ships were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 long tons (74,000 t) fully loaded and armed with nine 46-centimetre (18.1 in) main guns.
