Japanese Yamato Battleship Boat

With many revolutionary features incorporated into her design, the Yamato was completed in December 1941, and met her final fate at the hands of American Navy carrier aircraft in the South China Sea while on a one way mission to Okinawa. This model features minor modifications to Tamiya's previous Yamato replicas Items 78002 and 78014, and has her looking as she did just prior to departing for her final mission, in an exquisite 1/350 scale assembly kit display model. The Yamato's massive imposing silhouette is accurately reproduced, and both the main gun turrets and secondary armament turrets can be rotated even after assembly.

"Yamato Battleship - Very detailed. Loved it"

The details are very good. The guns are pretty accurate, but with some slight adjustments. (due to sizing issues, i can understand the ratio standards for the guns) The middle tower was awesome. Cannot wait to start building this.

OK, maybe Tamiya has spoiled me, or they just set the bar too high. But I have never encountered so much flash with a Tamiya model, and I have made over 100 of them. Otherwise this is an good model. But it is so large as to be difficult to handle. I bought a deck kit, and it was perfect and fit very nicely. It also came with anchor chain, which I always add to ships anyway.

"A Great Collection Piece"

At over 29 inches long and a fitted height of nearly 8 inches (stand included) this is a centerpiece for any 350 scale collection! (Images uploaded to page after fitting out) This kit will keep you busy for quite a while with many intricate parts and Tamiya left nothing out of the Yamato's pagota bridge stack in the center of the ship surrounded by the array of guns and lookout platforms. It is recommended that if you are a novice or even still learning the ins and outs of painting that practice and experimentation should be done elsewhere because you will want to reserve your best work on this piece. The massive hull and angling decks leading into her massive rapid-fire 18 inch triple turrets are enough to wonder what this behemoth must have been like at anchor glaring at you.. For the realist modeler it may be wise to consider ordering either the wood deck or the decal for a uniform look, the sheer number of boards to be airbrushed for the correct scatter look is nearly impossible to replicate but the details do make up for any shortcomings in the kit such as excessive flashing or easily breakable parts on the sprues. With a wide variety of photo etched parts available and numerous decals to add including the rising sun flag and flagship of the feet emblems along with the catapults all have their own decal sets. With a little extra work the main guns barrels can be hollowed out or can be replaced with other aftermarket kits but that is a choice for the modeler and some fixtures will need to be sanded or scribed down to fit proper scale. If you are going to spend the money to top off your collection or just want to try assembling a battleship this is a kit you would be never regret purchasing and is sure to grab the attention of a seasoned modeler or any casual observer.
