Dolores Depot - Kit

Narrow gauge railroads connected the small mining towns of Southwestern Colorado for moving Silver ore to the mills. The various towns all had these types of train stations that served the passengers on some of these same trains. I purchased a similar HO scale kit by AHM (American Hobby Manufacturers, Inc.)kit#5814 of one of these stations, mine is the Rico station and the design is actually quite similar with just a few variations. Having travelled and lived in the area I've seen numerous examples of these historic stations in many photographs. My kit was very detailed and loaded with tons of great structural additions, the architectural accuracy looks very well done as these stations did have some ornamental appeal. Each of the sub assemblies were very well drawn making construction easy. It is by far a complex kit which will appeal to the kit builder who enjoys a challenge and staying within historical accuracy. One should note that very few of these types of stations remain standing and snow and weather in general have taken its toll, pure neglect has played a large part. A few remain due to being local tourist attractions, so the builder can be proud to recreate a little history. All in all, this is an ultimate kit in the sense of a great challenge, I highly recommend this kit to anyone at a high level of experience.
