2016 Chevy Camaro SS (Garnet Red)

1st off, let me get the cons out of the way. I only have 2 and they are more towards the way that the 'KATS from AMT' advertised this kit. My kits paint job had over 17 swirls in the finish, along with several mold seams and a complete lack of shine. Maybe I should have listened more to my experienced side, and ordered the molded in white kit, I was disappointed with the overall finish of the body. The 2nd is with their description of new mold technology. It's something we have seen before in the other american kit manufacturer. Parts trees molded in black & silver plastic. So much for a quicker build with less time painting, especially for the seasoned modeler. Now onto the pros of the kit, and there are quite a bit of them. To the best of my knowledge, this is the 1st 'all new full detail glue kit' to come from the KATS from AMT, I hope there will be many more in the future. I really have to applaud AMT for their window paint detail, although my example did have a slight bit of paint bleed through, and on the rear upper it didn't follow the contour of the window. The biggest improvement has to be the pad printed rear defroster lines, in the correct color. I have been hinting to the model companies for years for this detail. By my count there are 104 total parts that make up the kit. The engraving on the parts is nothing short of spectacular. You have to see them to believe them, it is the best I've seen in a kit from AMT PERIOD, and I can recall when full engine detail was a big selling point. Accuracy and proportional fidelity appears to be spot on 100%. The front wheels are poseable and as stated before the engraving on the 10 parts that make up the front suspension is excellent. The rear suspension has 22 superb parts including the exhaust system hangers as separate parts.... I have to say I didn't see that coming.... Don't let the 12 piece engine fool you. When fully painted and assembled along with the other 7 pieces that make up the engine bay, will yield a very complete and accurate appearance, right down to the separate water lines. 4 chrome tips finish of the well executed 10 piece exhaust system including 4 more hangers. The wheels are chrome plated and would look much better with some semi-gloss clear sprayed on them. The 'no-name' tires do carry accurate tread detail and their direction is called out in the instruction sheet. 11 total parts make up the interior and again the engraving is carried over here as well. It features 2 piece bucket seat assemblies and separate door panels and floor shift. The Dash has the pedals molded to it but feature separate column and steering wheel. 22 pieces make up the accurate Camaro body in SS trim. Everything is separate for the body, mirrors, wipers and just about everything else you can think of. The decal sheet, in my opinion, could be a bit better. The gauge decals are not legible, but the center stack decal is loaded with apps. There are a complete set of stripes, optional on the real car, in a gloss black. There are 2 Camaro decals for the engine cover. That's a bit disappointing to me, as detailed as the engine compartment is it would be that much better with the underhood decals. My overall impression on this kit has to be 100%, and with some attention to the paint details should yield a very accurate and visually pleasing 2016 Camaro SS. I have to give it a 4.99 star rating only because the advertising is a bit misleading and the lack of engine bay decals......GO AHEAD, BUY ONE AND ENJOY THE BUILD.....
