A fun build of an interesting subject
As a child of the late 50s I grew up on the space program and loved it all. Kits of space related subjects always interest me so I was excited to see this new kit.
This kit did not disappoint. The kit is molded in grey. The pieces are crisp and my copy had no flash. I did notice however that some of the pins extend onto the surface of the pieces so extra care is required to remove the pins and get the pieces to fit properly.
The kit is comprised of two sub-assemblies a lower engine area and an upper tank module. You build the engine area first then upper tank area and then attach the two. The upper area can be built in one of two ways: as a passenger version as depicted on the box or as cargo version where the tanks shown on the box are replaced by large cargo pods. I built the passenger version.
Instruction are generally clear but pay attention to how the landing leg pieces are attached to the engine frame or the leg pieces will not align properly on the engine sub-assembly.
Overall I found fit good but I did have some difficulty aligning the pieces that surround the tanks and globes so use care here.
I found the painting instructions difficult to follow often because not all of the pieces are clearly marked. The picture of this kit on the Pegasus web site is clearer than the one on the box (no exhaust) and I found it a useful guide when unsure what the instruction were showing me. Also your life will be easier if you attach the decals to the globes before you install them - but they can be installed after if care is used.
Overall an enjoyable build of a quality kit of an interesting subject.

A great but difficult von Braun conceptual lunar lander
I became a big space program enthusiast around 1967 and studied everything I could find on the Apollo program and almost everything else. I learned about von Braun and much later some of his conceptual designs from the '50s. This was one, a very large lunar landing vehicle and when this kit came out turning it into a model I picked it right up. It is a very well executed model with very good and fine details. That said understand if you intend to build this it is going to be very challenging. I didn't expect it to be quite that difficult so ended up spending much more time on it then I thought I would. Many parts are fragile and getting all the structures and tanks into place is a tricky. It also has a large amount of repetitive building to do. In the end I finished it up and it turned out very nicely. If such realistic scifi models appeal it is great but it will test your modeling skills.
Worthy Tribute to Early Space Travel Concepts
Twenty years before Apollo 11, rocket scientists were dreaming big. This Moonlander kit is a worthy tribute to the optimism that heralded in the Space Age. This ship, designed by Wernher von Braun, was meant to be built in Earth orbit. From there, it was on to the Moon, along with two other Moonlanders, to explore and learn.
This is a wonderfully designed kit. Real intelligence was applied to where the seams would be set. Most can be camouflaged by the framework; others fit so well that they blend into the molded panel work. I must admit that this was a challenge to build mostly because of the sheer number of detailed parts. It also demanded a careful and precise painting strategy. I almost felt like I was building a real spacecraft. But the time, effort and patience are worth it.
