"A big disappointment"
jmabry26757 (Romney,WV)
I like to build models of show cars like this one. While I cannot complain about the instructions, as they were clear except for one thing, the kit itself is terrible. First off, all of the 2 piece assemblies do not have any alignment pins. As a result they are only butt jointed together. Also the boiler is joined the same way to the base without any alignment pins, so you have to eyeball it to get it to look right. The burner assembly is also butt jointed to the base, and when I tried to put the drive wheel on the shaft the assembly came off. The expansion tank assembly and the lantern posts do have pins to attach them to the floor, but they are top heavy with their attachments and kept falling over. The engine is attached to the by a small tab. So the only way to keep the engine from coming off is to glue the axle to the radius arms. The instructions call out to paint the inside of the headlights yellow, and I decided to paint them clear yellow as I thought this would look better. The headlights are chrome plated, but had so little plating inside of them I had to paint them silver first. The instructions call out to paint some parts fc. The color chart calls this code flame color, but no explanation as to what that is. It feels like they rushed this kit out the door without taking any time to make the kit easier to assemble. This is the worse kit I've seen in a long time

"AMT Flameout Show Rod"
this is one of those kits thought I'd never get a chance to build. It is great to see it reissued. Have not built it yet but reviewing the contents is looks like it will be a great build.

"Very Cool Kit !!!!!"

Has to be the coolest, simplest, well fitting kit I've ever built. So much fun constructing, I wanna find other show rods similar to this and build them.
