Don’t let the AMT moniker on the packaging fool you. This is an Italeri kit, which means it’s a sweet building kit. I had some issues with the fitment of the hood to the cab, but that’s my fault and I may fix it properly one day. With that said, this kit goes together very well and has a well detailed interior and under hood area. One thing I didn’t like was that the instructions came as one large sheet, like a road map. It would be better suited to a booklet format so it doesn’t get in the way as much. There are many sub assemblies such as the frame, cab, hood, sleeper, and engine so there are lots of parts which will require lots of time and patience. The wheels are probably the best in the business as far as assembly goes. It’s pricey, but the quality is top notch. Have fun!

I recently assembled the Italeri Volvo VN780 truck. When I opened the box for this AMT Ford LTL9000, the first thing I noticed is the similarity in the plastic. It is thin and soft just like Italeri. But, many items I noticed were EXACTLY the same. It did not take long to realize, this is an Italeri reboxed for AMT. This one at least has an engine to assemble, but still lacks some detail on it. And the multitude of pieces to assemble the cab are very frustrating. I am only half way thru this one, but disappointed that it was not a true AMT edition. We will have to see if the finished model is worth the hefty price they put on this thing.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of the multi-piece cabs that Italeri/AMT have made, but the detail and fitment of the parts was very well. The chassis and attaching parts go together pretty easily. The engine detail is great. After it all goes together, the only issue I had was for the air cleaner to hood point. I had to massage the area a little to get the hood to close fully. All in all, I really do like the way the kit turned out.
