Nissan R390 GT1 Racecar GT1

The R390 GT1 took its name from a car, R380, that excited Japanese motor sports enthusiasts over thirty years ago. Jointly developed by Nissan and TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), the R390 GT1 is the state of the art racing expertise of them. Aerodynamically refined low and sleek body styling is suggestive of Nissan's highly competitive Gr. C machines raced during the 1980's. The 3.5 liter V8 engine, producing an awesome 600 horsepower output, is bolted directly to the carbon composite monocoque and works as a load-carrying element. The tremendous power is delivered to the rear wheels via a transversely mounted, six speed transmission. The four wheel double wishbone suspension system is connected to the horizontally mounted shock absorbers via pushrods and bell cranks to provide optimum road handling performance.

"Another great Tamiya"
This kit is great. Excellent engine detail and decals. It has all the typical stuff you would expect from Tamiya with excellent parts, great fit, color guides, etc. I have been a big fan on all the GT1 models they have.

"Typical Tamiya JGTC car kit"
Overall the kit is very good as would be expected from Tamiya. The engine is has good detail as does the interior. There are really only two trouble areas with it. The first is the hood fade decal, getting it to lay flat, especially at the front on the sides isn't easy. To do it again I would have cut the sides off and laid the decal on in three pieces. The other issue is the engine cover body piece is supposed to be removal so you can take it on and off as you please. The problem with this is there are multiple decals that bridge the gap between the engine cover and the chassis of the car. Also and more importantly I had a hard time getting it to fit right even with gluing it so it would take a lot of work to make it fit without gluing it in place.

"Nasty Nissan"

Great kit and highly detailed. You really have to think through the process of painting and building these Tamiya racecars. For experienced modelers it is the greatest joy to be challenged like this. I had alot of fun building this one and you will too. I love that they gave you the decal options for all 3 versions of this 1997 LeMans beauty.

"Serious Detailing"
This has been the most superior kit to add enormous detail to the engine bay. For those who are into this, you must do one of these for sure. There are so few obstructions and doesn't have a cowl on top of the motor. Most of the credit is given to Tamiya on this one. The fit is perfect allowing you to mock up the entire engine bay, identify places for add on's and repeat this over and over again.

  • Unsuitable for kids under 3.
  • Recommended paints are for adult modelers only.
  • Always use modeling equipment with caution.
  • Paints and cement should be used in a well-ventilated area.
