"Great Kit for Master Level Experience and Awesome Flights"
Mickey Mchugh (Galveston, Texas)
Since this was my first effort of building a Master level kit, I used James Duffy's excellent youtube video on building this Saturn 1B kit as a guide. His tutorial will guide any builder seeking to gain master level by providing details on basic construction, painting, and decal application on a high level. He breaks the project into a series of simple, easy to complete steps. I followed his video as I built the kit and finished with a beautiful model and so much fun to fly! All her flights have been perfect using a D12-3 with altitudes from 383' up to 416'. I do remove the LES for flights since she comes down nose first. I have applied James' techniques to both my Apollo 11 and Skylab Saturn V builds.

"Estes Saturn 1B nice rocket, but can be improved."
champfluff
I have and older release of Estes Saturn 1B #2408 and only takes D12-5's, the flight is not bad and recovery flawless, but would install an ejection baffle for longer parachute life, would upgrade the parachute to nylon and the shock cord to braided elastic like Estes Pro II. Other than limited to D12-5 is the only draw back. On very light wind days, launch with an Estes Super-C C5-3, should see about 200 feet and easy to recover. If I could rebuild this kit again, I would have used 8x18mm motors, 4 clustered in the center and surrounded by 4, just like the real Saturn 1B.
