Signal Tower Kit

The Atlas Signal Tower is sometime referred to as an interlocking tower. This tower resembles hundreds of signal towers having two features in common; the comparatively closed-up ground floor housing banks of track circuit relays, and the wide-open second story with its rows of switch control levers.

"A Must Have"

This kit was a Christmas gift for my first model railroad set-up and glad I got it. I assembled it with no problems at all, but as another review said it does take a bit of patience since there are some small parts to deal with but experienced modelers will have no problem with it. Turned out fantastic and could not look more realistic. The details are wonderful right down to shades for the windows. I thought the instructions were very clear and detailed. There was some flash on the parts when you separate them from the tree but it cleans up with no problem at all. One thing to remember is a small amount of cement goes a long way, you don't need much! I would highly recommend this kit.

"If your layout has a yard, This signal tower is a fun addition."

There are a lot of small details that make this realistic and good a good choice of alternate decals to make your tower unique. Prior comments highlight some of the unique characteristics of this model that make it preferable to others. I modified the colors a bit and applied compound (normally used for wall plastering) then wipe it to highlight the bricks with realistic cement appearance then added dabs of paint to give the bricks a realistic inconsistent appearance. I purchased figures from Hobbylinc and added a couple of appropriate figures that I imagined as workers in my railroad yard. The assembly instructions were easy to follow. Some of the small pieces require tweezers and minimal glue to assemble. As usual, Atlas recommends painting be performed while the parts are still attached to the injection molds. I had a lot of fun imagining how to amke this kit look even more realistic and unique to my layout.

"Not for the begginer at all!"

A worthwhile kit but will take patience to assemble, not for the beginner at all! The detail is great but there are so many many tiny parts that it WILL drive the beginner to insanity. The base of this kit [ maybe on my kit only ] was badly bent & twisted. To correct that I heated some water in a shallow fry pan, bought it to simmer and submerged it in the water for about 10 seconds and put it on a flat surface to allow it cool. I feel that the assembly instruction sheet should have been bigger and clearer, I also feel the instructions should have had more steps to them. A great kit but again lots of patience is required!

This kit is well-engineered and easy to assemble. Beginners need not even paint it since it is molded in 4 colors. The interiors are wide open so more experienced modelers can add lighting and a full interior.
