"Art Deco near the top"

Storm Lake Mobil is a nice gas station (every layout needs one to fuel your cars!) that adds a definite pop to a rural or city scene. The wood parts are well cut, but fragile compared with other craftsman kits as two parts were broken in an undamaged box, nothing a touch of tite bond cannot fix. The kit falls together quickly and smoothly after repairs. The white metal parts are superb with crisp fuel pump handles and scale like hoses. The art deco style adds a great period look to a layout, a great structure with splashy colors to get away from the greys and browns of brick and mortar.

"Craftsman kit with sharp features"

This kit is a very good medium difficulty project. It is neither the hardest nor the simplest to build, but is well worth the effort. Red is the only paint required for the pumps doors & windows. All is included for a sharp fill-up except a base. The pump's are the hardest part to assemble with the very small paper decals. A little small shrink tube over the hoses make it far more realistic AND easier to attach. But be careful with the shrink heat, as the pump nozzles are very thin melt-able metal. Many small details are included like Coke chest, oil can stack & pole mounted air station. There are various add-ons available, such as JL 498 interior and period correct vehicles such as Mini Metals 30368 Mobil pick-up. I also added a Miller 4682 animated sign, placing the circuit board inside the roof drum. Many pics in the gallery show off the details of this Must Have classic service station!

"Kit leaves a lot to be desired"

I found this kit to be below what I expect from JLI. The front is difficult to assemble as there are no interlocking parts and the mounting surfaces of the front windows are small and not easily glued. I found assembling the internal office walls helps to properly align the front/side windows and door for gluing. The signage over the Washing bay doors is not properly aligned with the door when the Lubrication sign is properly aligned over the other bay door. Cutting to adjust shortens front decoration and is unacceptable. In order to mount Mobile sign on pole requires cutting a cardboard backing as none is provided and paper signage is not sufficient for mounting. A nice building if difficulties above are overcome.
