This is an excellent model of the P-51D, especially where value is concerned. Parts fit extremely well. None of the parts exhibited warping and the decals were superb. Would recommend highly to P51 fanciers.

"Good -- not quite great"

My first impression of this kit was very good. The cockpit detail is excellent: throttle control, instrument panel, floors and sidewalls, all of it perfect. The two-piece canopy is clear enough that you can enjoy all this detail even after the kit is complete. The fit throughout was wonderful and the kit went together without any problems. The landing gear was especially pleasing, being very sturdy and solid. The shortcomings came mostly on the underside of the model: the radiator is crudely molded and there was some warped plastic near the nose. The engraved panel lines are shallow and disappear after the first coat of paint. The rudder is attached to the rest of the fuselage; it's as if two different designers worked on this model and ended up with a beautifully detailed cockpit in an average plane. The decals are also a let-down, looking quite blurry and thick. After past experience with Academy decals I opted for an aftermarket set. Overall it's a good kit and a quick, satisfying build, but its moderate shortcomings make the new-ish Airfix Mustang a better option.
