"Easy build"

Pretty nice reissue of and old kit. This was the first reissue and I didn't know what to expect. Not a lot of detail on the underside or engine compartment, but otherwise a nice kit. The interior is nicely detailed, as is the body. Definitely a nice kit for a beginner. There was a nice treat with all the extras to build it in different forms. Lots of extras so your imagination can go where it wants.

"Not many parts but still okay for a decent 1963 Impala build"

This kit does not come with many parts and you will need to highlight with paint to make the details standout. This kit does not come with a radiator, firewall or battery for the engine compartment. This is also the first kit I built in which the rear taillights are part of the plastic body mold and not separate red clear plastic. The chassis is one piece so you will need to paint the raised pieces to make it intricate (exhaust, pipes...etc.). You will save time gluing but more time painting to make the model seem intricate. The kit also comes with a lot of accessory parts (prize trophy, TV set, tools.etc.) great for dioramas but AMT could have used this effort toward the car model instead. I had trouble fitting the front end to the drivers side fender. The front wheels are not connected with a steel rod like the rears but with an independent plastic stem/hub. You may want to connect the front wheels to the chassis before gluing the front face of the wheels together so you get less freeplay or negative camber when the model is completed.

I just opened the box and this is what up. The rear taillights are part of the main body and have to be hand painted. Also the front axle is unique making a wheel change harder than if it was a standard steel axle like on the rear. Just a strange setup. This would make a pretty good custom version because it comes with many extra custom parts. All the pieces seemed fit with little flash.

This is a retro style promo model kit which means it is made with older tooling that sometimes give you the fits when trying to put it together. It also means there are a lot of parts for customizing to make your model unique. I wonder what is the back story of including a animal figurine with these old kits? This one has a rabbit. The fit for the front grill will take a lot of tweaking to get it to fit correctly. The hood also needs some adjustment too. Make sure to trim out the hinge holes before painting. The interior is a tub style that has held up over time and the chassis is one piece. I personally like these old retro kits because they are easy to modify. The box artwork is cool and it comes with an incredible new decal sheet. There are decals for the interior, dash, and exterior emblems.
