A good kit but needs some revisions.
Just finished and posted some pics of this kit. AMT still, after numerous releases, hasn't fixed the tail lights. I doubt If any of the designers/engineers who created this kit ever saw a real '69 Chevelle tail light. They look nothing like the real thing. It's a problem making them look good, other wise, the kit assembles fine. Another detail they overlooked again is the lower body side molding should not be there. It was present on the '68 but omitted on the '69. I could have sanded off the side molding but thought it would be a lot of extra work. Anyway, the kit has lots of customizing parts and a lot of detail and could be a great kit, with the exception of the tail lights and side molding. I still enjoyed building it.
A fun kit to build!
Starting with the cool Ratman cover art this kit was fun to build. Not too complicated but it does come with some nice options such as two sets of tires, three sets of rims, and three choices for engine intakes. You can build it stock, custom, or drag. The drag version has slicks, a racing seat, and wheelie bars. The custom has rear and front end treatments and a cool looking hood scoop. My kit had very little flash and went together smoothly except the fit of the stock taillights and the slicks. The slicks are really soft and just didn't want to stay on the rims. No problem, I will use them for another kit because they look great. My wish list for this kit would be a set of those big and small Goodyear Polyglas tires that I used on my model. Don't you think they should include these with every Round 2 model kit? Also, a simple round chrome air cleaner because it is one of the first modifications made to most hot rod engines yet they are hardly an option in most model kits. This kit is another blast from the past!
AMT 1969 Chevy Chevelle Hardtop
This kit was not very good. I had hard time getting parts to line up, some of the parts were warted. The hood and dash, just to name a few. Very hard to work on. That just me. Maybe I'm getting to old to build model cars, but I will keep going. Sorry I just did not care for the kit.
