"AK47 of Fighters"

This was a great kit! One of the few Academy kits i have built that fit very nicely together. This was fairly basic, but still had very nice details. The rivets, panel lines, and texture were very nice. The cockpit and landing gear bays were average, maybe a little better, in terms of detail. There were just basic weapons, like IR and radar guided missiles and a gun pod. You can also place a center line drop tank rather than a gun pod. If I remember correctly, the decals include three countries and were quit nice, other than being very fragile. The directions were clear and direct, leaving nothing to desire. I've built two of these, and each were great. This is a great Mig-21 to grab if you are looking for one.

"A Superb Soviet Workhorse from Academy"

The Mig-21MF was my first airplane kit after 20 years away from the hobby. I was very impressed by the quality of the kit. The scribed panel lines were new to me, but I'm glad the technology had advanced during my absence, as the kit looked awesome with the scribed lines. I also liked how Academy designed the kit so that many of the seams were ultimately hidden under other parts, and thus reduced the need for putty. The cockpit was nicely detailed with raised instruments. No instrument detail on the insides of the fuselage, however. The weapons load can be missiles and rocket launchers, or all missiles. I chose to do a Russian version, and the decals seemed very adequate (although I realized too late the need to apply them to a very glossy coat of paint). Overall, I would highly recommend this kit. It was a very nice re-entry into the hobby.
