"Hobby Boss 1/48 F-105 Thunderchief"

This kit was very detailed, much more than the Monogram F-105s that I am used to building. While being a little tedious and maybe a little over engineered, this kit non the less turned out to be the best F-105 I have ever built. It was built straight from the box, with only some additional detailing to the main gear doors as the kit ones have no internal detail. I originally was going to display the model with the tail removed and the engine exposed, so I spent several hours painting and detailing the engine, only to discover that I could not find a stand for the tail, alas all that work for not. Oh well I know it's there. All in all this is really a beautiful model and I would recommend it to anyone with modeling experience, it is definitely not a kit for beginners. Pictures will follow soon.

This is a great kit which I tried to make even better. Study the instructions and be careful removing parts. For example, the gun barrels will break if not removed very, very, carefully. As other modelers had complained about the cockpit depth, I put in the Eduard photo etched cockpit. While they saw its for the Hobbyboss kit it took ALOT of sanding. As the F-105 sits on spindly legs I used the SAC version and highly recommend them for the F-105 in particular. The weapons included with the kit were rarely used in combat. I purchased the Eduard AN/ALQ 71 pods and used the Hasegawa aircraft weapons kit for M-117 bombs and AIM-9B missiles. As I wanted a specific jet I used Super Scale International decals for 59-1771, Ohio Express/Foley's Folly. If you are a Thud fan like me this is a great kit, but if you want accuracy you'll have to do some research and dig into your spares box. Highly recommended for experienced modelers. I'm not a huge fan of tiny photo etched parts but the end result was pretty special. I'll build the F-105F/G soon. Have fun and good luck

I had never built a Hobby Boss kit when I got this one. I did not know what to expect: I am very happy with it--clear instructions, great decals, good fit. I am not skilled in camouflage painting, so I went with a metallic finish. The model, like the real thing, is massive.
