"Very good kit."

I'm about 85% of the way through my build. The detail is outstanding! However, I couldn't give the kit an Excellent because of two minor issues: excess flash on the small parts (kit has been around for a few years) and the part numbers on Step 12 in the instructions are all wrong. They have the numbers for the lower wing airbrake on the upper and the numbers for the upper on the lower. Also, the numbers for the wing airbrake mechanism are wrong, pointing to the wrong sprue tree. Recommended for moderately experienced modelers.

"Still a great 1/48 SBD kit"

This kit was originally created by Accurate Miniatures (AM), a company that raised the bar for plastic injection molded kits. Years after its introduction, is still is an exceptional model, with finely reproduced details, accurate outline and fantastic fit. One caveat to builders: AM kits were intended for experienced modelers, as the engineering required to attain the accurate detail is complex, and the construction sequence must be followed exactly. Many experienced modelers consider instructions as something they refer to if they can't figure out how a certain part fits. AM kits require study and following the instructions or unwanted surprises await, often after the cement has firmly attached the offending parts ;) The kit assembled with only small applications of seam filler, and the cockpit and signature dive brakes are works of art by themselves. With some patience and patiently following the instructions, a really beautiful SBD will be the result.
